City of San José CIO to help expand scope of WCI
October 12, 2015 – Joint Venture Silicon Valley today named Vijay Sammeta, Chief Information Officer for the City of San José, as public sector co-chair of the organization’s Wireless Communications Initiative (WCI).
The WCI brings together the wireless industry, local governments, businesses and residents to improve the wireless and broadband infrastructure in Silicon Valley and works to keep the region a center of wireless leadership and innovation. The private sector co-chair of the WCI is Dr. Edwin Tasch, chief of neurology of Kaiser Permanente's Santa Clara Medical Center.
“Vijay is well-known in the wireless industry for his leadership and vision in deploying world-class networks for San José City Hall and Convention Center, Mineta San José International Airport and the downtown core area,” said David Witkowski, Director of the Wireless Communications Initiative. “The WCI will be expanding its focus beyond cellular telecommunications to address such new challenges as Smart Cities and the Internet of Things. We recruited Vijay because he’s the ideal person to help us extend the WCI’s vision and impact.”
Sammeta has more than 20 years of experience in the public, private and non-profit high-tech industry. During his career, Vijay has also worked for notable Silicon Valley technology firms Hewlett-Packard and McAfee.
