Joint Venture taps veteran AT&T community affairs executive
SAN JOSE, Calif. – January 25, 2011 – Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network today announced it has named longtime Silicon Valley telecommunications executive Leon Beauchman as executive director of the organization’s Wireless Communications Initiative.
Beauchman retired last month from a 25-year career with AT&T, where he had been the company’s area external affairs manager since 1998.
“Leon brings the seasoned experience of an industry veteran, along with superb community sensibilities and long experience as an elected official to Joint Venture,” said Russell Hancock, CEO of Joint Venture. “He is ideally suited to lead this initiative for us.”
Beauchman has a long history of business and community involvement in Silicon Valley, with an emphasis on education. He has served on the Santa Clara County Board of Education for the past twelve years, and previously served on the Campbell Unified School District Board of Trustees.
He is also president of the Santa Clara County Alliance of Black Educators and has worked on educational initiatives for Joint Venture and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group.
Beauchman earned dual undergraduate degrees in business administration and economics as well as his MBA at San Jose State University. After serving in the Peace Corps in Ghana, he held positions in financial services and advertising before settling in telecommunications.
