Congressman Ro Khanna elected to Joint Venture board

Congressman Ro Khanna has been elected to the Joint Venture board of directors.

Rep. Khanna, elected to the House of Representatives in November to represent the 17th Congressional District, was approved unanimously in a vote of the board January 11.

“I am honored to serve, and I have great respect for the organization,” said Rep. Khanna on receiving word of his election.

Grand Boulevard Awards presented to six Peninsula cities

Six Peninsula cities recently received top honors for development projects and plans in the El Camino Real corridor that exemplify the guiding principles of the Grand Boulevard Initiative.

The GBI Task Force co-chairs, Joint Venture CEO Russell Hancock and SamTrans General Manager Jim Hartnett, were on hand for the award ceremonies sponsored by San Mateo County Economic Development Association (SAMCEDA) and Dostart Development Company, LLC.

The GBI includes cities, counties, transit agencies, labor, environmentalists, business, developers and community leaders in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties working to make the 43-mile stretch of El Camino live up to its full potential as a place for residents to work, live and shop.

Mercury News, KCBS spotlight Wireless Communications Initiative

Joint Venture's work and expertise on communications infrastructure was featured in a recent in-depth story in the San Jose Mercury News and in a related live interview on KCBS radio.

In his front page article, Mercury News reporter Louis Hansen focused on the lagging wireless infrastructure and the “intense local politics” stalling better wireless networks in the region. The article goes further than most in explaining the technical challenges, and singled out efforts by WCI director David Witkowski and WCI co-chair and San Mateo County CIO Jon Walton.

Water Awards nominations open through Feb. 3

Applications and nominations for the 2017 Silicon Valley Water Conservation Awards are now being accepted until February 3.

Joint Venture is among a broad coalition of 11 organizations behind the awards, presented to organizations, agencies, businesses and individuals whose programs and leadership have advanced water conservation in the region.

Winners will be honored in ceremonies on World Water Day, March 22.

The Silicon Valley Economic Development Alliance invites commercial real estate brokers and other development professionals to an informative, interactive breakfast briefing in Union City February 2.

Panelists from Fremont, Milpitas, Hayward, Newark and Union City will discuss the latest development opportunities in their cities. The event takes place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Union City, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., with continental breakfast. Panelists will be available for networking after the presentation.
