New Partnership with the Silicon Valley Community Foundation

The Joint Venture board has formalized a new partnership with the Silicon Valley Community Foundation to expand and enhance the Silicon Valley Index, Joint Venture’s annual report measuring the strength of the regional economy and the health of the community. Beginning in 2008 the two organizations will release the report together.

The Community Foundation will also become lead sponsor of Joint Venture’s State of the Valley conference, the town hall-style meeting that brings together leaders from across the region and included a keynote this year by former Vice President Al Gore.

The grant will provide Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software for local physicians, as well as connectivity software to develop a Regional Health Information Office (RHIO) centered at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose. Smart Health received one of only two Misys grants, from a field of 90 applications.

New COMPIC Web site helps Silicon Valley Respond to Disaster

Joint Venture is testing a beta version of COMPIC (“Common Operational Picture”), an interactive Web site where government agencies, local businesses, emergency officials and community groups can enter real-time information about resources that are crucial in responding to disasters. The site, which uses Google mapping technology, provides details on facilities such as fire stations, hospitals and police stations, shelters, and infrastructure such as water lines, emergency vehicles and hazardous chemical storage.

When disaster strikes, first responders can easily update each other through COMPIC on what facilities and equipment is immediately available. While regular Internet service is knocked off line by power failures, first responders can utilize satellite links that function regardless of local damage – so COMPIC offers crucial data when it’s most needed.
