Joint Venture board endorses World EXPO 2020 bid

Moffett Field site could draw 25 million visitors, generate $5.6 billion in regional economy

San Jose, CA | March 11, 2011 – The Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network board of directors voted unanimously today to endorse the Bay Area’s bid to host World EXPO 2020 at Moffett Field and to serve as the lead Silicon Valley organization supporting the proposal.

The board acted after a presentation on the economic, tourism and infrastructure benefits of the event by Bay Area Council president Jim Wunderman, whose organization is heading the regional effort to attract the exposition.

The Bay Area Council estimates a World EXPO would bring 25 million visitors and 45,700 jobs to the Bay Area and generate some $5.6 billion in economic activity for the region.

For its part in the bid process, Joint Venture will provide fundraising assistance, liaison with local governments and institutions, logistical support for a site visit by the Bureau of International Expositions next year and other support as needed.
