Joint Venture conducting municipal greenhouse gas inventories
Joint Venture, with financial and administrative support from PG&E and ICLEI, is conducting inventories of municipal greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for local jurisdictions in Silicon Valley. The goal is to update municipal inventories to 2010 data to assist local jurisdictions in tracking their progress on reducing emissions. Some sixteen jurisdictions are participating in the project so far.
Joint Venture has hired, trained, and deployed eighteen interns to the participating cities to conduct the inventories. The interns’ duties include data gathering, recording and analysis, as well as producing a written report for their respective jurisdiction. Ongoing training and technical assistance are provided to the interns and the cities via Joint Venture, in coordination with ICLEI and PG&E.
John Sztukowski, a member of Climate Corps Bay Area, is supervising the project for Joint Venture.

Our JULY Spotlight
MO QAYOUMI San Jose State University
Growing up in Kabul, Afghanistan in the 1950s and 1960s, Mohammad Qayoumi often worked in his father’s carpentry shop after school and on weekends, learning to make doors, windows, cabinets, chairs and other items.
School was his priority, but few might have predicted that Mo Qayoumi would eventually earn five degrees – four in the U.S. – publish eight books and more than 100 articles, hold top administrative positions at five American universities and be president of two of them.
