Technology and trend forecaster Paul Saffo will deliver one of the keynote addresses at the 2013 State of the Valley conference on February 8.
Saffo has built an international reputation exploring the dynamics of large-scale, long-term change. He is managing director of Foresight at Discern Analytics, and teaches at Stanford University, where he is also a Visiting Scholar in the Stanford Media X research network.

Last year Saffo generated a great deal of attention when he argued the Bay Area should carry itself like a city-state, and that subject will be one of the themes under exploration at the conference.

Joint Venture teams up with SurveyMonkey

Growing up in Washington, D.C. as the son of an environmental lawyer in the Carter Administration, it was years before Daniel Yost realized that his wasn’t a typical urban childhood.
“I eventually figured out that most kids don’t get to roll Easter eggs on the White House lawn,” Yost says with an engaging smile.

Rep. Anna Eshoo to speak at Wireless Symposium Nov. 2
Silicon Valley Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, the ranking member of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, will make keynote remarks at Joint Venture’s Silicon Valley Wireless Symposium, “Public Policy in a Wireless World,” at Marvell on November 2.

Eshoo will join other government and industry leaders for the event, including Alan Norman of the Google Access Strategy Team, San Jose City Councilman Pete Constant, Santa Clara County Office of Education CIO Kelly Calhoun, AT&T area manager Shiyama Clunie, Intel’s Manish Tangri and others.

“Morning Joe” hosts keynote Greenbuild 2012 Conference
MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are among the keynote speakers at Greenbuild 2012, the preeminent international conference of its kind at Moscone Center in San Francisco this month.

Joint Venture is a Bioregional Partner for the event, hosted by the U.S. Green Building Council, which is expected to draw more than 20,000 attendees and exhibitors to Moscone Center in San Francisco Nov. 14-16. Other speakers at the conference and expo include Twitter co-founder Biz Stone and Newark, New Jersey mayor Cory Booker.

“Stanford alumni companies equal 10th largest economy on the planet” San Jose Mercury News
Mercury News reporter Lisa Krieger reported this week on a new study by two Stanford University professors showing if companies founded by Stanford graduates formed an independent nation, it would be the 10th largest economy in the world.

The university’s graduates have created an estimated 5.4 million jobs and generate annual revenues of $2.7 trillion, based on responses to the 2011 Alumni Innovation Survey, sponsored by the venture capital firm Sequoia Capital. Professor William F. Miller, a member of Joint Venture’s senior advisory council, co-authored the report.
