Santa Clara University Provost Dennis Jacobs added to Joint Venture board

The Joint Venture Silicon Valley board of directors elected Santa Clara University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dennis Jacobs to the board at its quarterly meeting on November 22.

Dennis Jacobs

As provost, Jacobs oversees the schools and college along with all undergraduate and graduate educational programs and curricular offerings. He works to enhance the intellectual vibrancy of the faculty, student body, and curriculum by providing leadership in matters related to academic affairs, faculty affairs, information services, and student life.

Capacity Crowd for Electric Vehicle Workshop

More than 60 people from the electric vehicle sector, utilities, local government, research organizations, and facilities and energy managers from leading Silicon Valley companies attended an EV infrastructure workshop organized by Joint Venture last month.

The event at Juniper Networks highlighted organizational challenges in adopting new EV charging, integrating EV charging with existing infrastructure and new opportunities with EV as a distributed energy resource in the grid. The proceedings will drive Joint Venture’s work to make EV charging part of the grid architecture at the Moffett Field Busines Park.

Speakers came from Moffett Park Business Group, ChargePoint, GridScape Solutions, EPRI, Google, SAP, PG&E, GreenCharge Networks and Lawrence Berkeley National Labs.

State of the Valley just two months away

The 2014 State of the Valley conference is just around the corner. The event is Silicon Valley’s annual “town hall” meeting that convenes our region’s leaders from all sectors for a day of dialog on our economic health and vitality.

The conference, which features the release of the annual Silicon Valley Index, keynote speakers, hard-hitting panels and the Packard Award, will be held on Friday, February 7 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

A new study by Accenture researchers Chris DiGiorgio and Jeanne Harris finds that the culture in Silicon Valley consists of five seemingly contradictory characteristics that differentiate the region and allow it to flourish: Silicon Valley IT professionals are laid-back yet driven for speed, committed yet independent, competitive yet cooperative, pragmatic yet optimistic, and motivated by money yet fulfilled by unique and challenging work.
