SEEDZ blooming with growth in five project areas
SEEDZ circle icon

A year after its launch, Joint Venture’s effort to develop the energy network of the future has taken root. Dubbed the Smart Energy Enterprise Development Zone (SEEDZ), the project spans north Sunnyvale, north Mountain View and Moffett Field, and the partners in the zone are showing progress in five key areas:

Five local energy customers and service providers have now committed to fund initial development of the SEEDZ Power Quality Portal. SEEDZ is looking to gain commitment from one more company to formally launch the portal, to be developed by Applied Power Technologies.
Working with EPRI and Strategen, SEEDZ has completed initial site screenings with eight major power customers for onsite energy storage. Screenings have identified strong potential returns on investment for storage at several customer locations.
The SEEDZ team, including resources from Optony and RevGen Consulting, is currently working with the City of Sunnyvale to assess the economic and regulatory feasibility of a community solar array deployed within the City.
Working with the Moffett Park Business Group, SEEDZ is conducting an extensive survey of processes and infrastructure related to electric vehicle charging at corporate campuses.
Work has begun on a model functional specification for Integrated Building Energy Management, incorporating such smart energy elements as distributed generation, on-site storage, EV charging, demand response and advanced energy analytics.

Our AUGUST Spotlight

University of Phoenix

If it weren’t for the name plate on Stacy McAfee’s office door at the University of Phoenix in San Jose, you wouldn’t know she is the Bay Area Campus vice president.

The spacious office is virtually empty. But that suits McAfee just fine. A hands-on academic leader who’s constantly on the move, she much prefers being out and around campus engaging with staff, faculty and students to the administrative drudgery an office requires.
