Joint Venture board adds University of Phoenix and Jones Lang LaSalle executives

The Joint Venture board of directors has elected Summer Van Pelt, Bay Area Campus Director of the University of Phoenix, and Greg Matter, Executive Vice President of commercial real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle, as its newest members.

Dr. Van Pelt, who has been with the university since 2003, became Campus Director of the Bay Area campus, which includes San Jose, Oakland and Livermore, in 2015.

Matter leads Jones Lang LaSalle’s Advanced Manufacturing Group, providing strategy, planning, site selection, disposition and real estate negotiation.

Joint Venture endorses 9-county Measure AA for S.F. Bay

The Joint Venture board of directors has endorsed Measure AA, the San Francisco Bay Clean Water, Pollution Prevention and Habitat Restoration Program on the June 7 ballot in all nine Bay Area counties.

Measure AA creates a $12 annual parcel tax to fund a variety of shoreline protection and restoration measures. It is anticipated that 15,000 acres of wetlands can be restored with proceeds from the measure, which will also fund trails and similar multi-benefit improvements.

Joint Venture and Silicon Valley Talent Partnership join to address hunger and food waste

Joint Venture and Silicon Valley Talent Partnership (SVTP) have announced a comprehensive partnership to address hunger and the pervasive food waste in Silicon Valley.

Combining the managerial, organizational, administrative and technical expertise of SVTP with the network, research and foundational breadth of Joint Venture will provide a regionally unprecedented collaboration of public and private talent to both guide and manage the county’s food rescue efforts.

Joint Venture launches Smart City seminars

Joint Venture’s Wireless Communications Initiative has launched a series of quarterly “Smart City” seminars in connection with the federal Smart City Challenge and as part of a new educational program helping municipal leaders to learn about new communication technologies and emerging trends, discuss new regulations, and help build public-private partnership networks.

Representatives from a dozen Silicon Valley cities and counties attended the first seminar in March. The next seminar will be held in July. Contact WCI executive director David Witkowski for more information and watch for more details about the program in our April newsletter.
