New choice for clean energy in Silicon Valley

green and black logo

Joint Venture is working closely with a group of eleven cities and Santa Clara County to form and launch a new Community Choice Energy agency, the Silicon Valley Clean Energy Authority (SVCE). The Cities of Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Mountain View, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga, Campbell, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, and the Santa Clara County Supervisors have now all officially voted to move forward.

Board members have been named from each participating agency, and will meet for the first time as an operating board April 13. The energy program will be developed and launched over the coming year.

SVCE’s goals are to bring cleaner, greener, competitively priced electricity to the area, and to advance local energy-related investments and solutions. Joint Venture’s role is focused on engagement of local commercial and industrial energy stakeholders, who represent nearly two-thirds of the electric load in the area.

Santa Clara County expands surplus food distribution effort

The County of Santa Clara Recycling and Waste Reduction Division is launching a new initiative to reduce significant food waste and eradicate hunger in Silicon Valley. The County has designated Silicon Valley Talent Partnership (SVTP) and Joint Venture to lead this initiative as the Food Rescue Coordinator.

Joint Venture board co-chair and San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo and Joint Venture CEO Russell Hancock spoke at the recent Silicon Valley Food Rescue Forum that kicked off the program.

The program, launched with a three-year seed funding of $280,000, will establish a Regional Food Rescue Working Group (RFRWG) and fund the initial creation of a strategic plan.
