October 1, 2018 - Joint Venture Silicon Valley has appointed veteran electrical engineer Ed Balocating as Director of its Smart Region Initiative, a subspecialty of the organization's Civic Technology Initiative.
The Smart Region Initiative is a coalition between local governments, businesses, and residents working together to improve the quality of life in Silicon Valley through the targeted and holistic application of smart city technologies.
The coalition builds on existing relationships with technology companies, academia, and local government leaders to drive a coordinated public-private sector effort and mounts a highly strategic campaign to lead and transform Silicon Valley’s smart cities implementations at a regional scale.
Balocating has 20 years of experience in hardware engineering and field applications engineering expertise, working with customers and vendors in numerous markets including telecom, consumer, medical, automotive and industrial.
He also has experience in design, sales, and business development and has held previous positions with Senet, Semtech, Cymbet Corporation, Bourns, Inc. and Fultec Semiconductor.
In the past three years, Ed has been working in the wireless field as a solutions architect to help clients in niche markets using low-power wide area networks.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and a Master’s in electrical engineering from San Jose State University.
