Institute Report: Commercial development still brisk |

Commercial development has been robust through the third quarter of 2019, according to Joint Venture’s Institute for Regional Studies. The Q3 report, which covers commercial development spread over three counties, shows year-to-date completions already exceed 2018 totals. 13 million square feet are currently under construction, including a resurgence of dedicated space for research & development. |

Joint Venture pairs Valley Water with Robert Half to help underserved youth |

Joint Venture’s Silicon Valley Talent Partnership (SVTP) kicked off a project for Valley Water, which will recruit underserved-youth to be interns. A pro bono team from Robert Half International is providing skilled volunteers to assist in the endeavor. Through the project, Valley Water will educate young people about water management and create a long-term career path within the agency. SVTP will facilitate the project from start to finish. |

Manzanita Group Releases Report |

The Manzanita Talks, pairing eight peninsula mayors with eight tech companies, have completed their dialogue and released a report. The Talks explored whether the cities and companies should team up on a range of transportation services that address the “last mile” problem for commuters taking transit. The report provides deep analysis on four possible scenarios. “Today we deliver this report to the public,” said the participants in a joint statement. “It provides the background and the analytical foundation necessary for our region’s decision makers, so that they can think more expansively, continue these vital conversations, and take action.” |

Rachel Massaro, Vice President & Director of Research at Joint Venture's Institute for Regional Studies spoke expansively on CreaTV’s Valley Politics with Terry Christensen With 44 percent of Bay Area residents saying they’re thinking about leaving the area, many describe the situation as an “exodus.” “For the third year in a row, people are moving out of Silicon Valley nearly as quickly as they are moving in,” she explained. “In the past three years our region gained 61,977 foreign immigrants, but lost 64,318 residents to other parts of California and the United States.” |
