Joint Venture board adds new members

March 17, 2023 – The Joint Venture Silicon Valley board of directors today elected five new members to their body at their quarterly meeting. Unanimously elected were Jon Cowan, Senior Director, Government Relations & Community Partnerships, El Camino Health; Matt Mahan, Mayor, City of San José; Cynthia Teniente-Matson, President, San José State University; DeLinda Mrowka, Chief Revenue Officer, KQED; and Corey Verwey, Executive Project Director, LendLease.

Jon Cowan, Senior Director, Government Relations & Community Partnerships, El Camino Health

Jon Cowan is Senior Director, Government Relations & Community Partnerships at El Camino Health where he leads federal, state, and local government & community relations as well as provides leadership and operational oversight of El Camino Health’s community benefit program. Previously, Cowan served as Director of Local Government & Community Relations at Stanford Health Care.

Matt Mahan, Mayor, City of San Jose

Matt Mahan is the 66th Mayor of San José. He previously served as the San José District 10 Councilmember representing the Almaden Valley, Blossom Valley, and Vista Park neighborhoods. He served as a teacher through Teach for America, before entering the business world where he co-founded nonpartisan voter network, Brigade.com. He currently resides in San José with his wife and two children.

Cynthia Teniente-Matson, President, San Jose State University

Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson serves as the 31st president of San José State University. Prior to her appointment at SJSU in January 2023, President Teniente-Matson led Texas A&M University-San Antonio from 2015 to 2023. In 2022, the White House Office of Presidential Personnel appointed her as Commissioner to the Japan U.S. Friendship Commission and a panelist to CULCON, a State Department Japan-U.S. Binational Governance Commission.

DeLinda Mrowka, Chief Revenue Officer, KQED

DeLinda Mrowka is Chief Revenue Officer at KQED where she is responsible for areas that grow and deepen relationships with KQED’s audiences and financial supporters. This includes membership and major giving, corporate sponsorship, audience development and intelligence, marketing and communications, creative, and live events. Previously, Mrowka was Executive Director of the Public Awareness Initiative for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Senior Director of Marketing and Media Relations at WETA.

Corey Verwey, Executive Project Director, LendLease

Corey Verwey is Executive Project Director at LendLease, a globally integrated real estate company that creates and invests in communities, workplaces, retail, and infrastructure projects. Verwey has a strong focus on urban design and delivery with international experience in Australia, the Middle East, and South Africa. His experience includes delivery of land development and urban renewal projects.
