PROGRAM

The Silicon Valley Poll is an extensive public opinion survey placed in the field annually by Joint Venture’s research arm, the Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies, and Change Research. It is carried out in partnership with The Mercury News and Bay Area News Group. It is one of the region’s most closely watched surveys.

The October 4 event will feature a thorough briefing on the 2023 results by Joint Venture CEO Russell Hancock, who also serves as president of the Institute.

The 2023 Poll probes residents for their thoughts and feelings about three subjects in depth: struggling downtowns, public transit, and the continuing heartbreak of homelessness.

BACKGROUND

The Silicon Valley Poll is a survey of 1,500 to 1,800 residents of Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco Counties. It is carried out online in English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Vietnamese. The modeled margin of error is typically <3 percent.

The Silicon Valley Poll is a companion piece to the Silicon Valley Index, a comprehensive report presenting hundreds of indicators on the strength of the Bay Area economy and the health of its community. The Index reports on the facts about the region; the Poll provides valuable information about people’s view of Silicon Valley’s major trends and challenges.
