Calpulli Tonalehqueh

Calpulli Tonalehqueh is an Aztec dance group based in San José, California, dedicated to nurturing healing through the reconnection, practice, and sharing of Indigenous cultural identity, ancestral knowledge, and communal work. Grounded in ancestral principles, the group fosters harmony with nature while serving present and future generations.

Calpulli Tonalehqueh hosts the largest Azteca Mexica New Year Ceremony and Celebration in the nation, creating a space for ceremony, learning, and collective renewal. Tonalehqueh is a multilayered, metaphorical term referring to those who strive — individually and collectively — to meet their full potential on Earth, guided by the characteristics of the sun. Like the Sun itself, Calpulli Tonalehqueh seeks to be resplendent, strong, steady, life-giving, balanced, humble, virtuous, and creative.

Sanguine Humours is Bellarmine College Preparatory’s resident improvisational comedy troupe. Now in its 35th year, the company plays short- and long-form improv games and scenes, performing three mainstage shows every year and raising funds and awareness for local and global charities — all while making people laugh.

Beyond playing silly theater games, Sanguine Humours teaches students the life-long lessons of practicing improvisation: listening, saying “yes, and…” to new and unusual ideas, thinking quickly on one’s feet, taking risks, performing without a net, etc. Notable Sanguine alums include Alex Brightman, Ryan Vasquez, Dale Ho, Linda Park, Wajahat Ali, Logan Cunningham, Darren Korb, Sunkrish Balasubramanian, and Sofia Dobrushin.
