May 22, 2020 – Joint Venture’s Institute for Regional Studies has released analysis comparing current unemployment rates against those from the last 20 years. The numbers reflect an unprecedented 11.6% unemployment rate surpassing even the post-dot com bust of 2009. Following the release of preliminary April 2020 labor market data from the California Employment Development Department (EDD), Joint Venture’s Institute compiled a chart that illustrates the upward trajectory for Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, plus California and the United States.
May 15, 2020 – Joint Venture’s Institute for Regional Studies has compiled a summary of the San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward metro area consumer price index (CPI). Looking back to 1978, the two-month period percentage decline in the Index shows that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a decrease of 0.5 percent. No declines between April and February have occurred since 2003, and none of this magnitude since 1986.
May 25, 2020 - Joint Venture’s Civic Technologies Initiative has released a white paper in partnership with the IEEE's Future Networks Initiative. Co-authored by David Witkowski, executive director of the Initiative, the paper explores the "5G and Beyond Deployment Challenge," and provides perspectives, both public and private. It also begins to examine ways to ensure that all stakeholder perspectives are communicated and understood, alerts the wireless industry to the tactical challenges of deployment in and around the public right-of-way, and highlights the needs of local governments as they seek to manage the complexities of telecommunications deployment.
May 25, 2020 - Joint Venture's Silicon Valley Talent Partnership (SVTP) is helping nonprofits quickly find skilled voluteers to weather the COVID-19 crisis. With a large pool of pro bono volunteers who are skilled and ready to roll up their sleeves, SVTP can match the right people to the right projects. May 25, 2020 - Joint Venture encourages individuals and corporations to support the Regional Response Fund through the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The Fund supports lead relief organizations across ten Bay Area counties. In Santa Clara County funds will support Destination Home, for rapid aid for those at risk of homelessness. In San Mateo County funds will support several core agencies for housing, mortgage and rent aid, and utility assistance.
