April 22, 2019 – Joint Venture Silicon Valley announced that Jeff Lewis has been named Director of Joint Venture’s Smart Region Initiative where he will oversee a coalition between local governments, businesses, and residents working together to improve the application of smart city technologies across the region.
A veteran in the field of Information Technology, Lewis previously served as Director of Information Technology for the cities of Concord and Merced. As a CIO Jeff has led Smart City, broadband, IT strategic planning, enterprise architecture, policy, and research initiatives for local government. He has focused on the advancement of digital government, security policy, innovation, and emerging technologies.

April 19, 2019 - Dr. Mary A. Papazian has the pedigree to lead a great university. A native of Los Angeles, Dr. Papazian had nearly 30 years of teaching and academic administrative experience when she became San Jose State University’s 30th president and the first Armenian American female president of a university on July 1, 2016. That same year she joined the Joint Venture Silicon Valley Board of Directors.
April 12, 2019 - Silicon Valley Business Journal has named Rachel Massaro, Vice President and Director of Research at Joint Venture Silicon Valley and for the Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies as one of Silicon Valley's 2019 Women of Influence award winners.
April 22, 2019 - As part of Joint Venture’s Silicon Valley Talent Partnership project, a team of pro-bono consultants from Inspire helped the City of San José prepare for the rollout of the 2020 Census. The team developed Census “kiosks” at locations such as community centers to reach hard-to-count populations, including those 30% of low-income residents who don’t have access to the internet. April 22, 2019 - The Joint Venture Institute for Regional Studies today reported that Silicon Valley’s total number of registered electric vehicles (EVs) surpassed 80,000 in 2018, comprising nearly 20% of all such vehicles in California, and by far the highest numbers of any region per capita. April 2, 2019 - Momentum towards deployment of 4th and 5th generation technology for wireless telecommunications is growing. To educate and inform municipal leaders about 4G and 5G, Joint Venture’s Wireless Communications Initiative is partnering with telecommunications carriers to host a series of roadshow events throughout the Bay Area. These invitation-only events are open to municipal CIOs and IT staff, city managers, elected officials, and leaders involved in planning, public works, and economic development. Joint Venture Roadshow events will be scheduled in the Monterey Bay, East Bay, and North Bay regions. Municipal leaders interested in attending roadshow events should email or call (408) 298-9333.
April 2, 2019 - Joint Venture’s food rescue initiative, A La Carte, has collected more than 100,000 pounds of prepared surplus food from universities and corporate food services...more than 80,000 meals for people who are food insecure. This spring A La Carte will purchase an additional truck. John A. Sobrato, Chairman Emeritus of Sobrato Development Companies, Sobrato Philanthropies, and a current member of Joint Venture’s board of directors, has donated $125,000 to the effort.
