Daniel Wessler
Senior Researcher, Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies
Danny Wessler is a senior researcher at Joint Venture’s Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies where he leads data acquisition and analysis for the Silicon Valley Index and other Institute research efforts.
Danny comes to Joint Venture from the Walt Disney Company, where he led consumer insights and partnerships research for National Geographic Media, publisher of the brand’s iconic magazine and other editorial products. Before that, Danny spent several years with polling and strategic research firm Penn, Schoen and Berland, where he worked with a variety of corporate, association, and government clients including the U.S. Census Bureau, Federal Reserve, and Department of Defense.
Danny has also worked with the American Chamber of Commerce in Beijing, China, the Fraunhofer Center for International Management in Leipzig, Germany, and the city council of Washington, DC. Before attending graduate school he worked as an English teacher and later an outdoor adventure instructor in China, and for the International Budget Partnership, publisher of the Open Budget Index, which measures global transparency in public financial management.
Danny holds an M.A. in economic policy from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a B.A. in political science from St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
