Nancy Fishman

Silicon Valley Food Rescue

Nancy Fishman headshot Nancy Fishman, Ph.D., came to Joint Venture in 2017 to head the organization’s Food Rescue Initiative, continuing her career dedication to hunger relief and helping families and individuals in need.

A psychologist, family law mediator, and author, she recently relocated to Silicon Valley from Detroit, where she founded Forgotten Harvest, a fresh food rescue program in 1990. It is now one of the nation’s largest programs of its kind providing nearly 50 million meals to area feeding agencies. She maintained her volunteer status throughout the years as board president, advisory board member, and ambassador.

Nancy is a psychologist licensed in Michigan with a practice that spanned four decades. She was the owner/director of a large out-patient psychiatric clinic, then maintained a robust solo practice treating individuals and families. She specialized in family law, was a certified mediator, and practiced collaborative law. She co-authored the nationally known program SMILE and is the author of eight books and numerous articles, was the host of a radio talk show, wrote a weekly newspaper column, and had a monthly column in the Michigan Family Law Journal.

Nancy graduated from Hope College with a Bachelor’s degree, and earned her doctorate from Wayne State University. She has completed many post-doctoral courses, including negotiation training at the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation. Nancy is also a part-time faculty member at San Jose State University.
