Joint Venture board adds two tech leaders and a county supervisor

Joint Venture Silicon Valley announced the election of Skype executive Dave Hodson, Juniper Networks senior vice president Dan Miller and San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Pine to its board of directors at its quarterly meeting on March 15.

Hodson is a principal development manager for Skype, Miller leads Juniper’s worldwide enterprise sector, and Pine was elected to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors in a special election in May 2011.

Ranking federal & state officials, top scientists to headline Energy Storage Symposium April 11

U.S. Energy Department Assistant Secretary Patricia Hoffman, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission chairman Jon Wellinghoff and California Public Utilities Commissioner Carla Peterman will be among the speakers at Joint Venture’s 2013 Silicon Valley Energy Storage Symposium on April 11 in Mountain View.

East Bay Assembly member Nancy Skinner and leaders and scientists from CalCharge, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, California Independent System Operator Corporation and PG&E are also on the agenda.

Registration is now open for the fourth annual event, which takes place at the Microsoft Auditorium, 1065 La Avenida St. in Mountain View from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Distributed Energy Storage Workshop draws crowd and praise

A Distributed Energy Storage workshop hosted by Joint Venture’s Smart Energy Enterprise Development Zone (SEEDZ) last month – the first of its kind here for commercial building operators – drew more than 60 attendees.

They heard industry experts present the latest developments in onsite energy storage systems and learned how new opportunities for electric storage can be converted into positive cash flows at facilities. Topics included storage technologies and applications, financial case studies, storage in the California energy market and real-world case studies.

Wireless events for municipal officials & staff April 11-12

Joint Venture’s Wireless Communications Initiative is hosting a Wireless Update and Reception for Elected Officials and City/County Staff on April 11 at the J. Lohr Winery in San Jose, beginning at 6 p.m. The program will include a brief presentation on opportunities to expedite the deployment of wireless technology, followed by a hosted tasting event for city and county officials and wireless carriers.

The next day, April 12, a Silicon Valley Cities/Counties Staff and Wireless Carriers Roundtable will be held at DLA Piper in East Palo Alto at 8:30 a.m. This program is especially designed for City and County staff with direct responsibility for working with wireless carriers. There will be presentations on recent federal legislation, best practices for addressing community concerns and a study of wireless facility impact on property values.

Nominations for Grand Boulevard Awards close April 12

Nominations are being accepted until April 12 for the Grand Boulevard Awards program, which honors both Projects and Visionary agencies that embody the guiding principles of the Grand Boulevard Initiative.

Awards are presented in the public and private sector for physical projects along the El Camino corridor, as well as for plans by GBI member agencies. A GBI Working Committee member must submit nominations.
