Strategic Advisor, Smart Energy Enterprise Development
Zen Kishimoto serves as Strategic Adviser for Joint Venture Silicon Valley’s Smart Energy initiatives. He is currently Principal Analyst at AlterTerra Research, focusing on the application of information and communications technologies to power grids. As part of his activities, he participated in NIST' Smart Grid Interoperability Panel and Perfect Power Institutes definitions of perfect power metrics.
Zen is a seasoned technology and business executive with various functional expertise, including roles as analyst, writer, CTO, VP Engineering, VP Strategic Alliance, general management, sales, and marketing in diverse cleantech and high-tech industry segments, including smart grid, software, mobile embedded systems, Web technologies, and networking.
Before joining Alta Terra, Zen played CTO, COO, and other executive roles in Silicon Valley startups, including Cardsoft. Earlier he served as functional general manager and senior director at NEC Technologies, where he started the Internet business unit. He has held technical and research positions at NEC, Hewlett Packard, and GTE. He is also Principal of IP Devices, a software business and market research consultancy specializing in IT infrastructure.
Zen received his PhD in computer science, MS in electrical and computer engineering, and BE in electrical engineering from Northwestern University, the University of Massachusetts, and Kyoto University, respectively.
