Dennis Jacobs elected at quarterly meeting
November 22, 2013 – The Joint Venture Silicon Valley board of directors today elected Santa Clara University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dennis Jacobs, Ph.D., to the board at its quarterly meeting in Redwod Shores.
As provost, Jacobs oversees the schools and College along with all undergraduate and graduate educational programs and curricular offerings. He works to enhance the intellectual vibrancy of the faculty, student body, and curriculum by providing leadership in matters related to academic affairs, faculty affairs, information services, and student life.
Jacobs earned his doctorate in chemistry from Stanford University and bachelor's degrees in chemistry and physics from the University of California at Irvine. Jacobs was a chemistry professor at the University of Notre Dame from 1988-2011, and from 2004-2011 he served as Notre Dame’s Vice President and Associate Provost for Undergraduate Studies and International Studies.
In 2002 the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching named Jacobs the “U.S. Professor of the Year for Doctoral and Research Universities.”
