Joint Venture Board adds five new members: Gabel, Dhomhnaill, Sim, Smarr, Weis

Group includes Kaiser physician-in-chief, county schools superintendent, senior business leaders

San Jose, Calif. | February 27, 2009 – Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network today announced the election of five new members to its board of directors, including four senior business community leaders and an education official.

The new members are: Glenn Gabel, senior vice president of Webcor Builders; Mairtini Ni Dhomhnaill, senior vice president of Accretive Solutions; Harry Sim, CEO and founder of Cypress Envirosystems; Dr. Susan Smarr, physician-in-chief of Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Clara; and Dr. Chuck Weis, Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools.

“It is Joint Venture’s continuing good fortune to have Silicon Valley’s best and brightest leaders from every key sector directing our regional initiatives,” said Russell Hancock, CEO of Joint Venture. “These new members bring exceptional vision and a fresh perspective to our board.”

The 50-member Joint Venture board of directors includes some 30 representatives from the business sector, six from academia, eight from local and regional government and the remainder from the workforce and broader community sectors.

Among Joint Venture’s current regional initiatives are programs to support climate protection, recruit and retain teachers, establish a disaster resiliency center, create a sustainable building framework, examine workforce development issues, assemble a multipurpose wireless network and beautify the El Camino Real.
