San Jose Vice Mayor Cindy Chavez elected to Joint Venture Board

Champion of Small Business, Neighborhoods Joins Regional Group

San Jose, CA | March 7, 2005 – Cindy Chavez, vice mayor of San Jose, has been elected to the board of directors, Joint Venture President Russell Hancock announced today.

"Vice Mayor Chavez is widely respected for her leadership, particularly for developing innovative, community-based programs, and for her efforts at small business development," said Hancock, commenting on the unanimous decision of the Joint Venture board. "We're delighted to tap into her influence and expertise."

Elected in 1998 and re-elected in 2002, Vice Mayor Chavez served as the Staff Director of Working Partnerships USA, and as the Director of Education and Outreach for the South Bay Labor Council. She also served for three years as budget and policy aide to then Supervisor Ron Gonzales.

A graduate of San Jose State University, the Vice Mayor lives with her husband Mike Potter and son Brennan in downtown San Jose.
