USGS and its HayWired Coalition member partners, which include Joint Venture, will roll out the HayWired scenario with public and media events on April 18, the 112th anniversary of the great San Francisco earthquake and fire.

The HayWired scenario is a hypothetical earthquake sequence being used to better understand hazards for the San Francisco Bay region during and after an earthquake of magnitude 7 on the Hayward fault.

As part of the rollout on the 18th, a public panel discussion with the lead authors of the scenario will be held at the UC Berkeley University Club at Memorial Stadium from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The audience will learn about the likely impacts from a large earthquake in the East Bay and will have the opportunity to ask questions of the scientists.

“I was trying to figure out the best way to marry politics and policy in my career, and that seemed like the ideal job at the time,” says Rich, who has been Mountain View’s city manager since 2011.
