Joint Venture, Accenture team up on homelessness project

Pro bono team from Accenture

Joint Venture’s Silicon Valley Talent Partnership Initiative and a pro bono team from Accenture have teamed up with the City of San Jose to tackle one of the most persistent challenges related to homelessness – building neighborhood support.

To address this challenge, the Accenture team – in close collaboration with Fjord, its global design and innovation consultancy – is designing a communications roadmap for the city. It includes proactive messaging and education using social media and other tools to generate support for “bridge housing” solutions like tiny homes and safe parking. This will be done through a series of design sprints and will involve testing the results in half-day workshops during the course of the project.

Chronicle highlights Joint Venture Food Rescue initiative

The San Francisco Chronicle singled out Joint Venture’s Food Rescue Initiative under the direction of Robin Franz Martin in a lengthy feature piece.

“The battle against hunger is no longer confined to traditional realms like food banks and religious organizations,” the article begins. “In the Bay Area, more activists and local governments are trying to find new and more ambitious solutions to the quiet epidemic plaguing one of the country’s richest regions,” the article begins.

Led by Joint Venture’s Robin Franz Martin and made possible in part by support from the Sobrato Family Foundation, the initiative is bringing new and innovative approaches to feeding food-insecure families in our region.

Joint Venture HOV plan a finalist in MTC Horizon 2050 contest

A plan by Joint Venture’s Smart Mobility Initiative for more efficient use of carpool lanes is one of 12 finalists from 500 entries in a public competition. Launched earlier this year by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the “Horizon” Initiative solicited big, bold ideas for improving mobility across the nine-county Bay Area.

The Joint Venture plan proposes a method to increase the occupancy requirements on carpool lanes over time (from 2 people per vehicle to 3 or 4 people per vehicle), while converting one or more existing general-purpose lanes on freeways to HOV2.

Just about everywhere you look in Silicon Valley there’s a commercial office or industrial building under construction or for lease, a surge of growth that Greg Matter attributes to the “FAANG” effect.

Matter, a managing director for commercial real estate giant JLL in Silicon Valley and a Joint Venture board member, says the “market is strong, and much of the activity is driven by the big companies – Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Google,” hence the acronym.
