Marisa Kendall

Marisa Kendall covers housing and homelessness for the Bay Area News Group, where she has worked since 2016. Before joining BANG, she worked stints covering everything from crime in Florida to high-stakes legal battles between tech companies in Silicon Valley. Marisa lives in Oakland and enjoys swimming, biking and hanging out with her dog, Frodo.

 

Ethan Varian

Ethan Varian covers housing affordability issues for the Bay Area News Group. He was previously a housing and homelessness reporter at the Santa Rosa Press Democrat in Sonoma County. His stories about housing, business and culture have been published in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and the Guardian US, among others.

 

Kyla Ronellenfitsch

Kyla joined the Institute’s research team in 2022 to lead its survey research efforts. She is currently a Senior Survey Data Analyst with Embold Research, the nonpartisan, non-political unit of Change Research – a Bay Area-based polling firm. She has eight years of qualitative and quantitative research experience, designing action-oriented studies for a wide range of clients including government, unions, pension funds, and green energy.

The analysis emanates from the organization’s research arm, the Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies.
