March 17, 2017 – Joint Venture Silicon Valley today announced a partnership with the national Smart Cities Council to host “Smart Cities Week Silicon Valley,” a new conference on next-generation civic technologies to be held in Santa Clara this May. Registration is now open for the conference at smartcitiesweek.com/2017-Silicon-Valley. The conference builds on the success of Smart Cities Week Washington D.C., which brings more than 1,400 federal, state and city leaders together with the sector’s leading smart city practitioners every fall.
Smart Cities Week Silicon Valley will bring together city leaders and technology innovators to explore incoming trends and disruptive technologies. David Witkowski, Executive Director of Joint Venture’s newly-formed Smart Region Initiative, will moderate a panel of local smart city leaders at the event, to be held May 8-10 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
“Bringing the Smart Cities Week conference to Silicon Valley, where the most innovative IoT and smart city technology is being developed, is a logical step and a great opportunity,” said Witkowski. “We look forward to working with Smart Cities Council, Silicon Valley’s cities and counties, and local companies on this conference.”
“Disruption is a word that city leaders will be unable to avoid as we remake virtually every aspect of urban life — our transportation, our policing, our power, the way we listen and talk to citizens, the way we deliver city services, everything,” said Smart Cities Council Chairman Jesse Berst.
“Since you can’t dodge this disruption, your best strategy is to prepare now so you can be a victor instead of a victim,” added Berst. “Joint Venture Silicon Valley is known nationally and internationally for its leadership in the Silicon Valley, and we’ve been in communication with them during 2016 as they began building their regional smart city ecosystem, so it’s natural that we’d partner with them on this conference.”
Sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities are available for Smart Cities Week Silicon Valley, including an Innovation Alley for qualified seed-stage startups and non-profits. Please contact Joint Venture at (408) 298-9333 to learn more.
