Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies
Joint Venture Silicon Valley seeks a highly capable social scientist to lead its newly established Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies.
Joint Venture is a path-breaking, nationally-recognized organization bringing together public and private sector leaders to provide analysis and action on Silicon Valley’s regional challenges. Since 1995 Joint Venture has published the Silicon Valley Index, a report chronicling the vicissitudes of an economic superpower and providing an analytical basis for decision making. Since 2008 the Index has been co-published with Silicon Valley Community Foundation.
In 2013 the Joint Venture board launched the Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies, an institution housed within Joint Venture. The Institute will expand on the research presented in the Silicon Valley Index and provide a stream of studies and reports, blogs, web-based materials and more. Presided over by an advisory board that includes the region’s college & university presidents, the Institute will provide national thought leadership on the planning and governance issues facing dense metropolitan regions.
The leader we select will serve as the inaugural director, charting a course for the new Institute, carrying out the research, overseeing a small staff, and executing on a strategy for growth. The ideal candidate brings a Ph.D. or equivalent research experience in a relevant field (economics, political science, statistics, demography, sociology); of equal importance, the new Director will have an entrepreneurial bent, mobilizing resources and increasing the scope and impact of the organization.
